THESIS

The Iran Hostage Crisis, a paralyzing standoff between the U.S. and Iran resulting from
decades of economic, political and humanitarian conflict, persisted for 444 days due to
several failed attempts at compromise and a prolonged struggle to negotiate a resolution,
eventually prompting the end of the Carter presidency, the rise of modern terrorism,
and an irreparable
rift in the two nations' relationship.
